The Town of Wilton has numerous recreational venues and activities. A year-round full recreational program is offered through the town’s Recreation Department, with most summer activities held at Kineowatha Park and fall/winter programs held at the Academy Hill School gymnasium.
Activities at the parks such as swimming lessons, arts and crafts activities, tennis lessons, soccer, and field hockey, are open to residents and nonresidents.
At the most recent Parks and Recreation committee meeting, it was decided that the Wilton Recreation Department after not having swim lessons last summer due to Covid-19 concerns will hold swim lessons this summer at Kineowatha Park, but on a limited basis. Classes will run Monday-Thursday starting July 5- July 29 We are however, offering classes only for Red Cross level 4-6.
The docks will be installed in early June and canoe, kayak and paddle board rentals are available as of starting June 14. Calling ahead to make a reservation to use these items is strongly recommended. Buildings are again available for rent for the day for class reunions, family reunions, birthday parties etc. Please call the Recreation Department at (207) 645-4825 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for all reservations.
We are offering softball for girls ages 8-13 as well as Rookie baseball for boys or girls ages 7-10 and t-ball for those ages 5&6. It is recommended that players provide their own equipment to help cut down on the transmission of the Covid-19 virus, but the Recreation Department will provide bats, balls and helmets for those who do not have them. We also have a large selection of used gloves players can have. Cost for these programs is $25 and any paperwork needed can be filled out at the first practice.
We will be offering summer camps for field hockey, soccer, basketball, and tennis. Dates have not been set for these as yet, so we will post on our Facebook page the info for the camps in early June.
We will holding concerts at Bass Park on Tuesdays from 6-8 pm starting June 8 through August 31.Peop[le can see the full lineup by going to Facebook and searching Bass Park Events.
One very important piece of info for folks planning to use Kineowatha Park is that we will be charging non residents a fee to use the park. Day prices are $5 per person for those age 13 and older, $10 per car or $50 for a season pass. These prices will be in effect Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend. There will be no charge for Wilton residents. Wilton residents may pick up an in-town pass free of charge at the park as long as they can show proof of residency.
There is an 18 hole disc Golf course at Kineowatha Park that is fee of charge other than the fee to enter the park during the dates listed above.
The Recreation Department will be following state CDC guidelines for cleaning and disinfecting and we ask for your assistance and patience as we strive to offer a safe environment for our youngest residents. We look forward to another successful summer of outdoor recreation!
